Lucky Escape From Icey UK

Friday 18th
Much excitement as the 28 sailors of Team GBR prepared to depart for Argentina on Sunday evening

Saturday 19th
Snow hit most of the UK and freezing temperatures forced the closure of most airports.

Sunday 20th
BA announce that there will be no arrivals and as the previous evening's Argentina flight had been canceled rumors doubt spread round the group. The prospect of a cancellation was unimaginable as re-scheduling a group of 36 at this time of year would be almost impossible. Yet everyone made the journey to Heathrow, parts of the snow covered, single lane M1 were a freezing -6 degrees. By lunchtime the news was that most flights were canceled but if some runways could be kept clear and the planes de-iced, a handful of flights remained scheduled for take off and our flight was on the list. Unbelievably we made it, just one of 12 flights to leave the UK on Sunday or Monday!

Monday 21st
A quick hello to the rain forest covered hills of Sao Paulo in Brazil  to change crew and a couple more hours to Buenos Aires the 15 hour flight ended in 28 degrees and disbelief from the team at our lucky escape. We were here. It was hot. Lets go sailing!
Hotel Aspen Suites excellent, clean modern and good aircon! (Can't believe I said that) ideally situated in the heart of the vibrant city center yet only 20mins walk from the club.
Yacht Club Argentino VERY smart. Beautiful old building. Oak and leather. Flagstaffs and cannons. Shirts and ties. Opposite and between the ferry terminal and commercial port are tall ships.Behind stretch the Puerto Madero dikes lined with cafes and restaurants leading to the famous harplike Punte de la Mujer bridge.
